What's the Deal with Dehydrated Peanut Butter?

Peanut butter is the ubiquitous go to snack - satisfying unctuous creaminess with a rich nutty kick, perfect on bread or straight from the jar, day or night. But have you heard of the alternative that harnesses all that nutty goodness, with less than half the calories and fat?

Yes, that's right. We're talking peanut butter without the guilty pleasure. Think peanut butter in powder form or dehydrated peanut butter.

What is dehydrated peanut butter?

It's essentially a powder made by pressing roasted peanuts and removing most of the fat and oil content. The powder can either be used dry or reconstituted in water as a paste.

How can I use dehydrated peanut butter?

Dehydrated peanut butter's deep roasty and nutty flavour makes it ideal for both sweet and savoury dishes where the creaminess of peanut butter would overpower instead of enhance.

The nutty powder paired with the creaminess of smoothies, yoghurt and cereals works a treat.

While in baking, dehydrated peanut butter can substitute white flour, making it perfect for healthier peanut butter pancakes and peanut butter cookies.

Dips, dressings, soups and can be equally enhanced by a sprinkling of peanut butter powder as well as stir frys or even as a nutty coating on deep fried chicken.

So, can I live without my jar of peanut butter?

While using dehydrated peanut butter powder cuts down on the calories and fat that you'd find in your normal serving of peanut butter we're not saying good bye to our jars of peanut butter just yet. In fact die hard peanut butter fans will probably miss peanut butter's characteristic creaminess and the satisfaction only peanut butter slathered onto bread can bring, which for now at least, remains inimitable.
