Cronut Creator Unveils New Menu at First London Bakery

New York's king of the Cronut Dominique Ansel is just weeks from opening his first bakery in London. We reported news of Ansel's exciting plans back in January, but now we have a confirmed date: Dominique Ansel London will open in Belgravia on the 23 September.

And on the new menu, alongside his most famous creations, the trendsetting pastry chef has added a Welsh rarebit croissant with beer béchamel and a banoffee paella in a nod to the strength of Spanish cuisine in the UK capital.

Ansel told the London Evening Standard it was "important to look at the food scene as a whole, how people eat and what they eat,” in a city “rich with so many different cultures.” He says the banoffee paella came out of a desire to “build a banoffee pie inside a paella pan on top of caramelised bananas.”

Check out a rendering of the bakery interior, which will be bigger than his famed New York outpost, below. The Executive Chef at Dominique Ansel London will be Ryan Thompson, formerly of the Shangri-La Hotel, London.

Ansel also shared insights into his daily routine: “I don’t get much sleep. I usually wake up at 4am or 5am and go to bed at midnight. And I talk to Japan every day. I will do the same with London.”

An early riser then, like those who’ll be queuing outside Dominique Ansel London every morning from 23 September.
