Michelin Chefs Cook Onions in Many Ways

Onions – the often overlooked building block of cooking. The humble onion is the foundation of so many different cuisines, yet many people don’t consider this when they’re cooking.

To give love to the onion and show you just how important it is, we’ve decided to do a round up of videos showing Michelin chefs cooking onions in many ways.

From the classic French onion soup, to simple techniques on how they should be chopped – below you’ll find a useful collection of videos that will surely increase your appreciation for the onion.

Let’s start with this slick onion chopping tutorial from Marco Pierre White. Now that’s how you finely chop an onion.

It wouldn’t be an onion post without a classic French onion soup and it wouldn’t be a Michelin post without mentioning at least one of the Roux brothers. The second video shows Michel Roux as he demystifies the onion soup.

Here’s another version of onion soup.

With Indian cuisine, onions help to dictate the finished colour of a dish, as well as providing the base flavour for hundreds of dishes. In the next video, Atul Kochhar shows you how to prepare onions for making perfect curries.

To finish, here’s a recipe for a very creative onion–based dish from chef Matias Perdomo in Italy, enjoy.
