James Beard Awards: America's Classics 2017

The James Beard Foundation has released their 2017 America's Classics award recipients, five restaurants that will be honoured at this year’s James Beard Awards for their “quality food, local character, and lasting appeal.”

The James Beard Awards for 2017 will take place at the Lyric Opera of Chicago, May 1st, where each of five winners will be honoured.

In a press release, the foundation said: “The America's Classics award is given to restaurants that have timeless appeal and are cherished for quality food that reflects the character of their community.”

Over 100 restaurants have been honoured since the special award was created in 1998.

To qualify for the award, restaurants must have been in open for at least ten years and be ‘locally owned’.
