Kat Kinsman: If the Kitchen Profession Doesn't Change Chefs Will Continue to Die

Kat Kinsman is a writer and editor based in New York, she run the Senior Food & Drinks Editor at Extra Crispy and has written a book called Hi, Anxiety about her life as a nervous individual.

During a recent speech at the Mad Food Symposium in Denmark, Kinsman speaks about her view of the industry and tells the story of a chef who was at the very top of her game but had to step away because of the pressure the job was adding to her life.

Anyone working in a kitchen knows just how demanding the profession can be, turning off from the kitchen routine and living everyday life can be difficult.

Kinsman talks a lot about this and how many chefs struggle with the way we have just decided that restaurant life has to be gruelling, she asks the audience, many of them chefs, to just consider how the work can change.

Kinsman believes that if the industry doesn’t change, chefs are going to die. It’s why she’s gone on to create the webiste Chefs With Issues - a place that’s dedicated to starting an important discussion and provided resources to chefs within the industry.
