First James Beard Awards for 2017 Announced

The James Beard Foundation has announced the winners of two gongs ahead of the James Beard Awards 2017.

Chef, restaurateur and author Nora Pouillon (above left), a pioneer of the farm to table and organic food movements will pick up the Lifetime Achievement award, while Denise Cerreta (above right), a philanthropist and social entrepreneur, and the founder of One World Everybody Eats (OWEE), a pay-what-you-can non profit, will pick up Humanitarian of the Year at the awards ceremony on 1 May in Chicago.

Pouillon’s eponymous Washington, D.C. restaurant was certified the first all-organic restaurant in the US back in 1999, while Ceretta now has a network of cafes across the world designed to tackle food insecurity.

“The two women we honor this year are positively inspiring game changers in our culinary world," said the foundation’s President Susan Ungaro. "We look forward to honoring the powerful work they’re doing to create a better food system."

The James Beard Awards, which last year celebrated its 25th year, honours the US’s top culinary talent. Check back with Fine Dining Lovers for all the latest news about the 2017 awards.
