Entries Now Open for SA's 2017 Eat Out Woolworths Sustainability Award

South Africa's Eat Out Restaurant Guide are inviting restaurants from across the country to enter this year's Eat Out Woolworths Sustainability Awards. The rewards that are designed to recognise restaurants that put sustainability at the heart of the business, whether in menu design or working practices.

While the definitive restaurant guide is most well known for championing SA's best food, this is the second year the magazine have endorsed the importance of sustainability of restaurants alongside quality food.

In a bid to inspire readers and members of the food industry to reduce their impact, to create greater awareness about responsible sourcing and eating, restaurants entering are asked to demonstrate a true commitment to a set of criteria including:

  • the sourcing of meat, seafood and fresh produce
  • the design of menus
  • the impact of the restaurant on its surrounding communities
  • treatment of staff
  • use of resources like water and electricity
  • efforts to recycle

The inaugural winner was The Table at De Meye in Stellenbosch, a country-style restaurant that was praised by the judges for its abundant garden, ethically sourced meat, and support of local small producers.

How to Enter:

Restaurants are invited to complete the entry form, which lists the criteria against which they will be judged. All criteria need to have been met for six months or longer in order for a restaurant to qualify.
