What's The Best Way To Cook Lobster on The Grill?

It's a question that comes up every summer: how do I cook lobster on the grill? Every cook has his or her own way to accomplish the task and still end up with juicy, succulent meat. However, we have found one particular method that is quick, efficient and yields delicious grilled lobster every time.

A great tip for cooking lobster on the grill is to parboil it beforehand. By submerging the lobster in boiling water for just 2 to 3 minutes you'll speed up grilling time. This is especially useful when entertaining because you can parboil a few lobsters ahead of time and keep them in the refrigerator. Plus, you won't have to deal with cutting into a lobster that is still alive.

How To Cook Lobster On The Grill: Practical Tips

Once parboiled, this is what you need to do:

  1. Cut the lobster in half lengthwise
  2. Preheat the grill to medium-high
  3. Melt clarified butter for dipping
  4. Place the lobster on the grill meat side down
  5. Cook the lobster for 2-3 minutes
  6. Flip over and grill until the lobster meat is white and firm
  7. Baste with butter
  8. Serve immediately with lemon wedges

If you'd like to skip parboiling you'll have to cut the lobster in half while it is still alive. Afterwards, grill meat side down for 5-7 minutes. Then flip over and grill until the shell turns bright red and the meat turns from translucent to opaque.

Serve with plenty of melted butter and your favorite add-ins such as chopped herbs, chili flakes or lemon.
