Everybody Wants a Set of These Japanese Knives

A set of Japanese knives from a London-based knifemaker has become the most heavily funded knife set ever on Kickstarter, with nearly 60 times the crowdfunding target raised.

Edge of Belgravia had set a £25,000 goal for their Kuroi Hana collection, but at time of writing had raised over £1.4million from 5,694 backers, making theirs the most successful knife set campaign ever on the crowdfunding site.

The knives are each made of 67 layers of AUS-10 Japanese steel, which has a hardness range of 58-60 HRC. A pledge of £229 will get you a full set of six knives (the campaign is ongoing until 13 July) – over £600 cheaper than retail.

This could go some way to explaining the astonishing success of the campaign, though Edge of Belgravia has had help from Funded Today, a marketing firm that helps to boost crowdfunding campaigns.

They also got Michelin-starred chef Ollie Dabbous to say a few words for their promotional video. Watch it below.
