Clove Club Crew to Open a New 'Britalian' Restaurant in London

Chef Isaac Mchale and the team at The Clove Club restaurant in London have today announced they will be opening a second restaurant in the English capital.

Called Luca, the new restaurant will “serve modern Italian food, using British ingredients” and will open in Clerkenwell in November.

Speaking about the launch of the team’s second restaurant, Mchale said: “Italian food is steeped in tradition, and pasta is one of the great foods of the world. I am really excited to celebrate and explore it, while using the amazing seasonal ingredients Britain has to offer.”

Though they say you won’t see the word anywhere in the restaurant, “Britalian” is something that sums up aims for the new restaurant well.

Luca, designed by Alexander Waterworth Interiors, will open seven days a week and promises to be a place that breaks the rules of Italian tradition with dishes such as ‘Spaghettini with Morecambe Bay Shrimps and mace butter’, ’Rump of Angus Beef stuffed with Pancetta’ and ‘Ravioli of Grouse with Potato and Whisky sauce.’

The space will also feature a separate bar area, open from 8am to midnight everyday “focusing on finger foods, sharing plates and stirred cocktails”. The bar will also serve pastries and coffee in the mornings, and there will be a pasta making room where diners will be able to watch pasta as it’s made.

The new venture will be headed up by Robert Chambers as head chef in the kitchen, Jennifer Brown as general manager and Johnny Smith who will leave his post in the dining room at The Clove Club to run Luca full time.
