There are well-documented hospitality staffing issues in the industry right now, with restaurants struggling to fill positions across the board. The reasons for the lack of hospitality staffing are numerous and ongoing: poor pay, an abundance of restaurants, perceived millennial entitlement, etc. In fact, we recently wrote about this very issue in a piece on the sustainability of the chef.
A new app aims to help restaurants and bars fill these empty slots at the touch of a button. Jitjatjo connects businesses and staff – like a hospitality temp agency at your fingertips. Clients can book fully vetted hospitality staff within 30 seconds to arrive within an hour via the app, while Jitjatjo handles all aspects of HR and payroll, meaning staff receive payment a matter of hours after completing their shifts.
It’s a non-subscription service, with rates starting at $19 an hour for businesses, while staff can earn up to $30 an hour. Both sides can leave feedback for the other and choose not to work together again if they so desire. Businesses can track staff – similar to Uber – and there is also personal and group messaging.
The app is currently only available in New York City, but there are plans, according to Food and Wine, to roll the service out if successful. Watch the video below to find out more about how the service works.
