Supermarket’s Brilliant Response to Anti-Vegan Cheese Rant

Is it right to still call vegan cheese, ‘cheese’? One customer of UK supermarket Sainsbury’s certainly didn’t think so.

The unidentified “real cheese lover” launched into a rant on Facebook (as shared by Vegan Life Magazine) after coming across a vegan cheese made from coconut milk at a branch of the supermarket. The livid customer had this to say: “Cheese is not made with coconuts. Call it Gary or something, don’t call it cheese because it’s not cheese!!!!”

Has anyone else seen the new vegan friendly Gary?

Sainsbury’s then responded in brilliant fashion, picking up on the customer’s name change suggestion with the fake launch of a new vegan cheese called, you guessed it, Gary.

Thanks to customer feedback, we’re excited to introduce our new range of #Gary

We know PR departments meticulously plan these kinds of things, but we do love it when a big business responds to a customer complaint with humour, like the time Tesco relayed a song and poetry in tribute to a dead worm found inside a cucumber wrapper.
