The Michelin stars for Spain and Portugal 2017 have been handed out at a ceremony in Girona, Spain and the big news is that the host country has a brand new three star restaurant.
Restaurante Martín Berasateguin in Barcelona is the latest restaurant to gain the highest Michelin accolade, making it the ninth in Spain to garner the prestigous rating, having progressed from two stars in the 2016 guide. All existing eight three star restaurants retained the honour.
Spain also has 15 new two stars and five new one star restaurants.
Neighbours Portugal have two new two star restaurants – The Yeatman in Gaia and Il Gallo d'Oro in Madeira – making five in total (all three existing two star restaurants have retained their ratings). As yet, three stars remain elusive for Portugal.
