Step Inside FICO, the New Enourmous Eataly World

Totalling 20 acres, including four acres of fields, two and a half acres of markets, 4000 meters of event space, 40 workshops, 25 restaurants and much more...

These are just a few of the staggering numbers behind the new gourmet Italian food theme park "Italian Farming Factory (or FICO, acronym for Fabbrica Italiana COntadina) slated to open in Bologna, Italy on 4 October, 2017.

The project has been in its embryonic state for two years, but with the date and location confirmed, the stage is set for the "first living museum of biodiversity and agro," explains Tiziana Primori, vice president and managing director of Eataly World,  it's the place where "people can completely immerse in the Italian food experience, tracking from field to fork.

Eataly World

Designed as a full immersion visitor experience into Italian food and wine heritage, six million visitors are expected per year, in what looks to be the first of its kind and the embodiment of the Eataly mantra, "eat, shop and learn."

Visitors will be able to explore their favourite Italian produce from the top down in six themed worlds:  fish, meat and eggs; milk and dairy products; cereals; fruit and vegetables; drinks and dressings; and from field to fork.

Four acres of "pastures, fields, and farms will be dedicated to growing essential regional crops (olives, grapes, truffles, etc) and raising indigenous animal breeds (Piemontese and Chianina cow, Sardinian sheep, Ciociara goat, etc)."

40 shops will present Italy’s finest artisanal products from the prime materials produced nearby, including fresh and dry pasta, fresh mozzarella, aged cheeses, cured meats, gelato, candies, cakes, olive oil, craft beer, and much more, making this 'the' one stop shop for Italian food lovers around the world.
