On 1 May 2017, the James Beard Awards, often referred to as the 'Oscars of food' will once again honour the best of the US restaurant industry at a glittering ceremony in Chicago – the chefs, restaurateurs, front of house, and designers shaping US gastronomy as we know it. You can see the full list of nominees here.
Previously we featured 25 dishes from outstanding American restaurants, covering the six restaurants nominated in the Outstanding Restaurant category sponsored by S.Pellegrino. Now it's the turn of the newbies: here are 19 dishes from the five restaurants nominated for Best New Restauarant: In Situ, at MOMA San Francisco, where chef Corey Lee replicates famous chefs' dishes; Le Coucou, NYC; the game-changing Olmsted in Brooklyn, NY; Pineapple and Pearls, Washington, D.C.; and Tartine Manufactory, San Francisco.
These are all restaurants that have been open for less than a year, but in a short time, have managed to capture the imagination of food lovers.
