A 106 year old cook is one of the latest sensations to take YouTube by storm with her cooking channel devoted entirely to authentic Indian food prepared in her rural village home.
The grandmother, affectionately known as Mastanamma, who lives in Andhra Pradesh in Southern India, has already managed to accumulate over 340,000 subscribers and 55,00,000 on the Country Foods channel despite just starting her on screen cooking career a few months ago.
The series follows a mouthwatering array of preparations, most of which take place outside and use traditional techniques, fresh ingredients and basic equipment.
Calm and methodical, Mastanamma is a natural infront of the camera with a ready smile and strong hands as she gets to grips with most manual of preparations, from peeling ginger to shelling king crabs and flipping dozens of bread omelettes over an open fire. The emphasis is on tried and tested recipes that are sure fire crowd pleasers, confirmed by her ready and willing hungry local audience.
According to India Today the channel is managed by her great-grandson, K Laxman, who was inspired to start the channel in a bid to educate people on the traditional way of cooking and ingredients. Naturally he enlisted the help of his grandmother to star as the head chef in his captivating series.
