Bourdain Has a Big Problem with Fake Meat

Chef, author and broadcaster Anthony Bourdain has slammed “awful” fake meat, saying we should be concentrating on nose to tail eating before we start growing meat in the lab.

Speaking in the video below from Business Insider, Bourdain, who clearly loves his meat – check out his thoughts on steak and burgers – says he sees fake meat “as the enemy ... I look at food as something that should be pleasurable first. So the idea of creating synthetic meat seems antithetical to everything I believe in.”

Bourdain is presumably referring to the likes of the Impossible Burger, the 100% vegan burger that bleeds like meat and has recently been added to the menu of a Michelin star restaurant in New York.

But, he has a message for vegans and vegetarians: “How do they develop that stuff, how do they know it taste likes meat? Someone, somewhere is killing something.”

The debate only looks set to continue, with major investment being increasingly pumped into the development of fake meat products. Those behind the products claim creating them has significantly less impact on the environment than rearing livestock.
