Small Restaurant Swamped After Mistakenly Receiving Michelin Star

An unassuming restaurant in a small French town has been swamped with customers after mistakenly being awarded a Michelin star.

Bouche à Oreille in Bourges, which serves humble French brasserie fare, was listed on the Michelin Guide website has having gained a star in the latest Michelin Guide to France 2017. This was however, a mix-up: the one Michelin star Bouche à Oreille is in fact almost 200km to the north, in Boutervilliers.

The former serves dishes such as beef bourguignon and lasagna, while it's more upmarket equivalent has dishes including calf brain and lobster flan on the menu.

The mistake was only made on the website and not in the print version of the guide, which was released last week.

The woman who runs the restaurant in Bourges, Véronique Jacquet, told Le Parisien that she had been overwhlemed due to the error, and was struggling to cope with the extra demand, on top of her usual clientele of local workmen: "I have new clients that want tables for three and four but at the same time I have my regulars. The problem is that we don’t have that much space,” she said.

“We have apologised to both establishments and we are sorry to have misled our clients," said Michelin's Claire Dorland-Clauzel.
