Drivers in Uruguay can now get their meat fix without having to leave their comfort of their cars thanks to the opening of a brand new meat drive-thru.
Las Nenas Steakhouse in Punta del Este has been offering the drive-thru service since mid-January. Motorists can pick up their meat raw or grilled, as well as ordering sandwiches, sides and local wines.
“We want people to replace ‘Mc’ with ‘Meat’ when they are thinking what food they can grab to take away,” Las Nenas partner Juan Pablo Imbellone told Munchies.
All the meat is free range, fully traceable – "unimaginable for many fast food chains," says Imbellone – and certified organic by the USDA (Uruguay exports a significant amount of meat to the US). Check out this guide to USDA beef grades.
Uruguay has the highest beef consumption per capita in the world, more than 124 lbs, closely followed by Argentina and Hong Kong. The USA is fourth.
