There's a New Restaurant Opening in the Old Noma Space

Danish chefs Thorsten Schmidt and René Redzepi are to open a new restaurant at the old Noma site on Copenhagen’s waterfront it’s been announced.

Barr, opening on 5 July, will not be typically Nordic, rather it will “draw from the eating and drinking traditions of the North Sea; an area that spans Scandinavia, Benelux and the British Isles,” according to a statement. It will have a causal, homely feel, with dishes like frikadeller (pictured) and schnitzel, and an à la carte menu.

Schmidt, of the Malling & Schmidt restaurant in Aarhus, toldThe Wall Street Journal that the partnership deal between he and Redzepi had been inked 18 months ago, but they have been keeping it under wraps.

Noma has been closed since February and is due to reopen later this year at another location in the city. Redzepi and his team have been keeping themselves busy in the meantime with a pop-up in Mexico.

Barr will have 60 covers (as opposed to Noma’s 40), with room for another 30 at the bar, with a strong emphasis on beer. Bookings are now open.
