Modernist Cuisine is Opening a Food Photography Gallery

Modernist Cuisine, the pioneering food lab and publisher that likes to explore the what, why and how of food, and is renowned for its incredible food photography, is to open a permanent gallery.

The Modernist Cuisine Gallery at The Forums Shops at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, slated to open in May 2017, will bring together founder Nathan Myhrvold’s exquisite photography work from books including the classic Modernist Cuisine at Home and the forthcoming Modernist Bread, making it the first gallery in the world to focus solely on food photography from one single artist.

“We are standing up for food as a subject matter because we believe it can be both beautiful and intriguing, and deserves a place on walls alongside other works of art,” say the Modernist Cuisine team on their website.

Myhrvold and the team take a resolutely non-traditional approach to the subject matter, often dissecting kitchen equipment and utilising microscopy to create distinctive images that communicate the “endlessly fascinating, powerful and beautiful” world of food.

As Eater reports, the gallery will be selling large, limited edition prints (sure to be popping up on restaurant walls in the not too distant future), starting at around $1000.

Modernist Cuisine has previously held temporary exhibitions of its food photography in cities across the US.
